Travelers looking to navigate the Sunshine State and beyond will soon have significantly more options at their fingertips. JetBlue Airways, already the leading carrier at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), announced this week a substantial expansion of its flight schedule, aiming to solidify its dominance at the South Florida hub.
The move comes as the airline continues to aggressively pursue its growth strategy, capitalizing on shifting market dynamics at the airport. Starting this June, JetBlue will roll out increased frequencies and new year-round service on four key routes, catering to a mix of leisure travelers, regional commuters, and those seeking international getaways.
Strengthening the Network: A June Kickoff
The expansion, which rolls out mid-June, targets routes that have demonstrated consistent, high-demand patterns. The most notable shift involves domestic regional connectivity and a key international link.
Beginning June 11, travelers can take advantage of daily, year-round service between Fort Lauderdale and Cartagena, Colombia. Previously operating four times per week, the upgrade to daily service is a clear signal of the route’s popularity and the airline’s commitment to bridging South Florida with the historic Caribbean port city.
Domestic travelers also have reason to celebrate. On June 18, the airline will convert its Fort Lauderdale-to-Jacksonville (JAX) route—previously limited to seasonal spring break spikes—into a daily, year-round service. This addition provides a vital link between the state’s Northeast and South, offering travelers a reliable, nonstop alternative to hours of driving on Florida’s increasingly congested highways.
Additionally, JetBlue is doubling down on its capacity for business and leisure travel between Florida and Texas, as well as across the Sunshine State itself. Flights to both Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and Tampa (TPA) will increase from once-daily to twice-daily, year-round service, also effective June 18.

The New Number One at FLL
This latest announcement is not an isolated development but rather the next phase in a broader, sustained build-up at FLL. Over the past year alone, the airline has introduced 20 new destinations from this gateway.
Industry observers note that JetBlue’s aggressive expansion comes at a pivotal time. With Spirit Airlines—long a major player at FLL—currently navigating significant financial and operational restructuring, JetBlue has moved swiftly to absorb capacity and expand its footprint. By adding these frequencies, JetBlue is effectively reshaping the airport’s competitive hierarchy and positioning itself as the primary choice for passengers who prioritize the airline.
Travel Impact: More Choice, More Reliability
For the average traveler, the expansion translates into increased scheduling flexibility. The move to twice-daily flights on routes like Dallas and Tampa provides passengers with more options to tailor their travel to their schedules, whether they are on a quick corporate trip or a weekend vacation.
Furthermore, the shift to year-round service on the Jacksonville route eliminates the “travel gap” that often occurs outside peak periods. This is a significant development for Florida-based residents, enabling easier, consistent transit between major urban centers.
As JetBlue continues to integrate these new frequencies, the airline is also highlighting its broader connectivity. FLL serves as a major gateway for the carrier’s network, and these domestic links act as vital feeders for passengers connecting onward to JetBlue’s extensive range of Caribbean and Latin American destinations.
Looking Toward the Future
While the airline faces industry-wide challenges—including recent operational fluctuations that have impacted carriers across the nation—JetBlue’s continued investment in Fort Lauderdale suggests a long-term confidence in the region’s economic and travel vitality.
With FLL undergoing its own infrastructure improvements, including plans for a new terminal, the environment is ripe for a carrier willing to commit to capacity. For now, JetBlue is firmly holding the reins, turning a cornerstone of its year history into a modern, high-frequency hub that promises to redefine how travelers move through the Sunshine State.
