TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Leon County Schools is expected to vote on a policy next week that would allow residents to use school tracks, according to an LCS agenda item.
The agenda item is part of a ‘Use of District Facilities’ policy that says school facilities should be open to the community as long as it doesn’t “intervene with the educational program of the schools.”

In August, LCS announced for the first time in two years that it would reopen the Leon High School tracks for public use. An LCS spokesperson said the Leon High School track was expected to be monitored 24 hours a day, along with the public opening.
The school board is expected to vote on whether people can use school tracks when school is not in session or when the tracks aren’t being used.
Any area resident of any age utilizing an open track, designated by the Superintendent, on a casual, nonscheduled basis for recreational or physical improvement at times when school is not in session or being used for scheduled activities (facilities use agreement not required)
The meeting is expected to be held on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at Aquilina C. Howell Instructional Services Center.
