A group of tourists were lucky to escape as a 40-foot boat caught fire off Miami Beach, Florida, on Thursday, March 12, 7News Miami reported.

Footage by local photographer Cristian Valles shows thick black smoke pouring from the vessel as it’s engulfed in flames.

7News Miami reported tourists from Omaha, Nebraska, were on board when they noticed a burning smell.

Boat owner Peter Fink said he and his relatives and friends tried to use a fire extinguisher to no avail, before deciding to abandon ship.

“We waved down a boat actually, shot the fire extinguisher a bit up into the air so they could see the smoke from the fire extinguisher and it kind of caught their attention and they pulled over to us and they were amazing,” said passenger Jason James, as reported by the outlet.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said crews put out the fire, there were no injuries, and the cause was under investigation. Credit: Cristian Valles via Storyful
