Mobile home park agrees to reimburse taxpayer funds, rent after days-long water outage

  • March 13, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -A Leon County mobile home park where residents were without water for nearly a week has agreed to provide rent abatement to impacted residents, according to a memo provided by a Leon County official.

Leon County also asked Florida Sun Estates 2 to pay back $33,000 to taxpayers after the county provided emergency services to the residents.

Florida Sun Estates 2 agreed to reimburse the county for the expenses associated with the showers, water and toilets provided while water services were being restored.

Rent abatement for Florida Sun Estates 2 residents impacted by the water outage will cover the period of February 1-6, 2026.

In the initial letter from Leon County demanding repayment, it claims the mobile home park was operating without a permit and had been for nearly 4 months.

In Friday’s memo, Leon County says Florida Sun Estates 2 maintains the water issues were fully resolved before county emergency services arrived.

The mobile home park claims the issues stemmed from a main water line break on the Florida Sun Estates side and other frozen lines, city supply line outages and a resident “inadvertently closing a shut-off valve that affected more than just their own residents.”

The memo states that while Florida Sun Estates 2 agreed to reimbursement and rental abatement, “they are not admitting to any liability or wrongdoing.”

The mobile home park has asked that the $33,000 be paid back to the county through a “reasonable payment plan.” County staff said they will be coordinating with Florida Sun Estates 2 to develop that plan.

According to the memo, three additional properties not owned by Florida Sun Estates are currently receiving water service through their lines rather than the City of Tallahassee. Florida Sun Estates 2 is requesting County assistance in providing City water services directly to the properties.
