CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WINK)—Cape Coral police are monitoring local faith locations following a deadly attack at a synagogue in Michigan.

Services begin at 7 p.m. at Chabad of Cape Coral as the community comes together for Shabbos. Chief Sizemore said in a statement that officers have increased patrols and remain in direct contact with faith leaders, saying public safety is at the forefront of every decision.

Security experts say that police presence is just one part of a strong security plan.

“You start with positions. You make sure that you have people outside that are watching the parking lot, watching those that are coming, somebody that looks suspicious, and you know, as soon as they feel uncomfortable, contact local law enforcement,” said James Howard of Trinity Alliance Security.

Howard emphasized the importance of interior safety measures as well.

“Everybody get down in the church, lock the doors, barricade the doors, so it’s very difficult for the shooter to get in and contact local law enforcement get them on the way,” Howard said.

Local leaders say they’re moving forward with both caution and community in mind as faithful gather for services.
