Parents said they received a message from the Plant City High School principal saying there was a robbery involving two students and that one student had a gun.
PLANT CITY, Fla. — Plant City High School was on lockdown Friday as Hillsborough County deputies conducted an investigation on campus. A spokesperson for Hillsborough County Schools said the lockdown was lifted and students resumed normal classes around noon.
The sheriff’s office did not give details on the nature of the investigation but confirmed that the lockdown was put in place as a precaution.
No injuries have been reported.Â
Parents gathered outside the school said they were told two students were involved in a robbery and that one of them had a gun in their backpack.
“The principal sent an update to our phones via text message, and she explained that there was a robbery incident involving two students, and that the student who initiated the robbery had a gun in his backpack, and that’s the latest update that I’ve had,” Yesenia Castillo, parent of a Plant City High School student, said.
“It’s frightening to have to deal with this, and our kids having to deal with this. I’m relieved that [there have been] no injuries. That’s a good sign,” she added.
Castillo said she would like to see metal detectors at schools to prevent a scare like this in the future.Â
“It would be nice if we would have metal detectors in the schools because it would help prevent kids from bringing weapons to school,” she said.
