Authorities say a Florida woman is wanted in connection with an identity theft case involving an 81-year-old resident of Buna after investigators say the suspect used the victim’s personal information to purchase and attempt to purchase multiple vehicles worth more than $170,000.

The investigation began Feb. 23, when the elderly victim reported fraudulent activity involving her identity to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Sheriff Chuck Havard, the victim discovered someone had purchased a $130,000 vehicle from a dealership in Miami using her personal information.

Investigators later learned the suspect also attempted to obtain financing through financial institutions for the purchase of a second vehicle valued at about $43,000.

During the investigation, another dealership in the Miami area contacted the victim to report someone had attempted to purchase a third vehicle using her identity. That attempt led to an arrest by the Miami Gardens Police Department.

Authorities there arrested Debra Rodriquez, 54, of Pompano Beach. Police said Rodriquez was found in possession of multiple forms of identification and credit cards in the victim’s name.

Rodriquez was charged by Miami Gardens police with attempted grand theft and providing false information.

Jasper County investigators later worked with the victim and Miami Gardens police to pursue additional charges. Lt. Jason McClelland obtained a warrant charging Rodriquez with fraudulent use or possession of identifying information involving fewer than five items against an elderly victim, a third-degree felony under Texas law.

Authorities in Florida are now actively searching for Rodriquez to serve the Jasper County warrant. If she is located, officials say she will be extradited to Texas to face the charge.
