DPS identifies Kandice Martin as the woman killed in a crash near Love’s Lookout. Unsafe speed reportedly caused her car to hydroplane into oncoming traffic.
JACKSONVILLE, Texas — Texas Department of Public Safety has identified the woman killed in a two-vehicle crash near Love’s Lookout on Tuesday, March 10, as Kandice Martin, 50, of Jacksonville.
DPS crews responded to the crash around 4:30 p.m. on U.S. Highway 69 near County Road 3432. Sgt. Chris Williamson said a Chevrolet Malibu was traveling southbound while a Volkswagen Jetta was heading northbound on the highway.
Officials say the driver of the Malibu was traveling at an unsafe speed for the weather and road conditions, causing the vehicle to hydroplane into oncoming traffic and collide with the Jetta. Martin, who was driving the Malibu, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Volkswagen Jetta was transported to a Tyler hospital for treatment. Their condition remains unknown at this time, DPS said.
The investigation is ongoing.
