JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Friday night was Teacher Appreciation, with the Jacksonville Icemen facing the Greenville Swamp Rabbits. The game needed overtime to decide the winner, with Jacksonville taking a 2-1 OT victory thanks to Jaden Condotta, who scored the game-winning goal 1:44 into the extra period.
The first period was scoreless between the two teams, with Greenville narrowly outshooting Jacksonville 10-8. The second period was a one-sided affair for Greenville, who outshot Jacksonville 13-2. A goal by Wade Murphy at 15:39 of the period gave the Swamp Rabbits a 1-0 lead.
At 8:51 of the third period, David Jankowski tied the game up for Jacksonville, slipping the puck past Isaiah Saville in net for Greenville. With the game remaining tied and both teams earning a point, the game headed to the extra stanza. Less than two minutes in, Greenville got caught on a change with Jaden Condotta scoring on a pass from Chris Grando, to earn the extra point. Michael Bullion turned away 27 of 28 shots for the Icemen, earning himself the #2 Star, behind Condotta.
Jacksonville still sits in last place in the South Division, one point behind Greenville and the Orlando Solar Bears, who are tied, and 10 points behind the fourth-place Savannah Ghost Pirates. They face the top team in the South Division, the Florida Everblades, for back-to-back games on Saturday and Sunday.
