Our weekly report contains examples of calls for service we handled throughout the week. These calls resulted in a report being generated, an arrest being made, or are important for other squads to know about. Rescue personnel responded to the area of Shore Boulevard and Beach Boulevard for an injured person who had fallen off his bicycle. The rescue personnel requested officers to respond because the man was intoxicated and arguing with them. The man needed to go to the hospital for treatment, and once an officer arrived, he went peacefully.

A 34-foot vessel was reportedly adrift in Boca Ciega Bay. Sergeant Kellington launched our police vessel and confirmed it was adrift. He contacted a tow company to have the vessel secured at the Gulfport Marina until an owner can be located.

A resident told their neighbor she saw someone inside her vacant house earlier in the morning. Nothing was missing from the property.

An intoxicated man and woman who live together argued because the man spilled his drink.

How We Cover Crime

When the current owners purchased The Gabber Newspaper in 2020, they made many changes. In October 2020, they changed policies on how The Gabber Newspaper handles crime reporting. Take a look at why we made that change, and why we now run the Chief’s report as we do.

The Bravo squad monitored the “No Kings” protest on Beach Boulevard and Shore Boulevard to keep the crowd and traffic safe. There were no reported issues.

A resident requested that a Department of Children and Families (DCF) employee be issued a trespass warning for his property. DCF was there to investigate claims that the residence is uninhabitable with no power or water. We are seeking assistance for the two people who reside there.

A resident called to report that her elderly husband wandered away from their residence. While the officer was there, she received a call from a bartender in St. Petersburg, who advised that her husband was there. The officer drove her to the location, picked up her husband, and brought them both back to their home.

Sergeant Marotta stopped a vehicle for an expired tag. The driver of the vehicle had a revoked license for fleeing and eluding. Additionally, the driver was on probation for fleeing and eluding, with a special condition prohibiting driving. The driver was arrested.

Officers responded to a 911 call where a resident claimed her boyfriend had attacked her. The boyfriend was located in St. Petersburg and had apparent injuries and explained that his girlfriend was drunk and actually attacked him. The girlfriend was located a short time later and arrested for battery—domestic related.

A 14-year-old boy met what he thought was a 15-year-old girl online. The girl talked the boy into sharing explicit pictures of himself. She then told him she would share the images online if he did not send her money (via gift cards). He did not send her money, but the pictures do not appear to have been shared.

A 45-year-old man was found deceased near a building. There were no signs of foul play.

A resident called to report that a tree company was using a wood chipper in the alley near her parked vehicle. Dust from the wood chipper landed on her vehicle. She wanted the tree company to pay for the damage, but there was none to the vehicle.

While speaking with her therapist, a juvenile made comments about jumping off a bridge or cutting her wrists. She was taken into protective custody under the Baker Act.

A resident reported a burglary at his residence. He explained that the doorknob was locked, and he does not use that lock. It was determined that his landlord had been to the residence to investigate a water leak.
