GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Derek Anthony Doby, 31, of Wimauma, Florida, was arrested last night after two women reported that he was walking around naked at The Enclave Apartments.

At about 10:40 p.m. on March 13, a Gainesville Police Department officer responded to The Enclave Apartments (3000 SW 35th Place), where the first victim said she’d been sitting on her screened back porch when she saw a tall dark figure walk behind her building and stop in front of her on the other side of the screen. She said he spoke to her briefly, and when he stood closer to the screen, she saw that he was nude and was masturbating while looking at her. He reportedly said, “Sorry, it was a dare.” When the victim told him to leave, he reportedly said, “Can I just finish?” When the victim threatened to call 911, he walked away.

At about 2:35 a.m. on March 14, the second victim reported that she was in her living room when she saw a man standing on her screened porch and masturbating while he watched her through the window; she later discovered that the screen had been cut. She said she turned on the patio lights and saw that the man was completely naked except for black socks; she said he made eye contact with her and then walked away.

After officers detained Doby, the second victim positively identified him, and the first victim listened to body camera audio and identified his voice.

A search incident to arrest reportedly produced a knife inside his sock.

Post Miranda, Doby reportedly denied being naked or masturbating outside the first victim’s apartment. He reportedly said he was in Gainesville to help his sister pack up for spring break, but his sister lives closer to UF, and he said he was at The Enclave visiting friends. When he was asked where his friends were, he said his friends had gone to the clubs, and he was walking around smoking marijuana. He denied doing anything wrong.

Doby has been charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling and two counts of indecent exposure with a previous conviction for sexual exposure. His full criminal history is unavailable, but he is on probation until 2029 for indecent exposure with a previous conviction out of Hillsborough County. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $125,000.
