Ft. Pierce, FL/CBS12 News — According to a county official, a new hotel is going to be built at the Treasure Coast International Airport in Ft. Pierce.
St. Lucie County Commissioner Cathy Townsend says in a recent social media post a hotel with a conference room will be built there.
She did not specify which hotel is going to open at the airport or when construction will start.
Erick Gill, St. Lucie County Communications Director, says a deal has not been signed with any hotel developer and he would not say what hotels the county is talking with. Gill says the county is talking to at least three commercial airlines about starting to offer flights at the Treasure Coast International Airport.
Townsend has not returned calls seeking comment.
Treasure Coast International Airport is not currently served by any commercial airlines. Gill says renovations are underway at to increase space at the airport terminal and construction is also being done to expand the airport parking area.
