Nova Southeastern dental students host 5K to raise oral cancer awareness

DAVIE, Fla. — The students of Nova Southeastern University’s College of Dental Medicine were out early on Sunday morning.

They were showing off their athletic abilities after sponsoring a special 5K.

Together, they were out to raise money and awareness for oral cancer prevention.

“Today, we are hosting our annual Oral Cancer 5K,” said NSU student Alexandra Lueck. “We do this every single year to raise awareness for oral cancer because early detection is everything.”

The event took place on Sunday morning on the school’s campus, located at 3300 S. University Drive in Davie.

“We had over 200 participants today, and we raised over $10,000,” said Lueck.

Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine also offers a lot of programs for the community to get much needed dental care at a low cost.

“We’ve earned our reputation as one of the elite dental schools with the best teaching clinics and renowned faculty in the Southeast,” said Lueck. “Our patients have access to a full range of dental services and providers. Our student clinics are just like a typical dental office. Our dentists-in-training and residents work with experienced dentists to provide your care. This means that you will receive an exceptionally high level of care at reduced prices, but it will take longer than the private dental office.”
