Bomb threat causes Zoo Miami to temporarily close for third straight day
MIAMI — Zoo Miami reopened on Sunday morning after it was forced to close on each of the previous two days.
Both closures were due to bomb threats.
Sunday afternoon, after being open for several hours, Zoo officials said on social media they once again had to temporarily close due to a bomb threat.
“It appears to be another ‘swatting’ call,” said Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Detective Luis Sierra. “An area canvas was conducted regardless with negative results.”
Zoo Miami received another bomb threat today and temporarily closed while deputies from the Sheriff’s Office including K-9 units already on site conducted a sweep. The park was quickly given the all clear.
We will reopen to the public on Monday with enhanced security measures.

Authorities previously confirmed that the initial closure on Friday was due to a “swatting call” being made, deputies said.
After the zoo reopened Saturday, it was again closed after deputies said a bomb threat was called in.
Zoo officials posted on social media Saturday that there would be enhanced security measures, including police and K-9 units, when they reopened.
Local 10 News’ cameras captured Miami-Dade deputies at the Zoo on Sunday, patrolling the area.
The zoo said there would be additional security measures when they open again on Monday.
