Daytona Beach, Sanford tie heat records

  • March 16, 2026

ORLANDO, FLa. – Despite storms and periods of rain moving through Central Florida on Sunday, temperatures still surged to near-record levels across the region.

Record heat

Daytona Beach and Sanford both tied their daily high-temperature records on Sunday.

Daytona Beach reached 89°F Sunday afternoon, matching the previous record set in 2016. Sanford climbed to 90°F, tying a long-standing record that dates back to 1971.

Record

Orlando also came close to record territory, with a high of 88°F, just shy of the 91°F record set in 1971. Leesburg wasn’t far behind either, topping out at 86°F, only two degrees below its record of 88°F set in 2020.

Even with unsettled weather, Central Florida still managed to bring the heat, with several cities flirting with or matching long-standing temperature records.
