Pinellas County has appointed Mark Sprague as the new director of St. Pete–Clearwater International Airport (PIE).
Sprague has been with the airport since 2015, serving as deputy director and, most recently, interim director, where he oversaw daily operations, emergency management and planning for a new terminal and parking structure. His 25‑year aviation career includes work as an airline pilot and roles in airport operations at Reagan National and Dulles airports.
He also worked as an airline transport pilot for both Comair and Spirit airlines.
“Mark melds diverse work experience in the pilot seat, the boardroom and the community to keep our airport operations safe, efficient and productive,” Pinellas County Administrator Barry Burton said in a statement. “His expertise in operational analytics, emergency response, FAA and TSA compliance, and stakeholder engagement positions him to lead PIE into its next phase of growth and service excellence.”
