Traffic is being diverted from the Dale Mabry gate as MacDill Air Force Base investigates a suspicious package.
TAMPA, Fla. — MacDill Air Force Base is investigating a suspicious package Monday afternoon.
Traffic is being diverted from the Dale Mabry gate to the Bayshore gate as emergency crews remain on scene.
The base is not on lockdown during the investigation.
This comes as MacDill AFB mourns the loss of three U.S. airmen killed when a refueling aircraft crashed on March 12 during a combat mission in western Iraq.
Saturday evening, the 6th Air Refueling Wing identified the crew as Major Alex Klinner, Captain Ariana Savino, and Technical Sergeant Ashley Pruitt.Â
The airmen were stationed at Sumpter Smith Joint National Guard Base, in Birmingham, Alabama and assigned to MacDill’s 6th Air Refueling Wing.
The three had been deployed for less than a week, a source tells 10 Tampa Bay News.
