TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare is suing a patient it claims refuses to leave the hospital.
In a complaint filed earlier this month, TMH alleges the patient was admitted to the hospital for medical treatment but was later determined to no longer need “acute care hospital services.”
A formal discharge order was entered on Oct. 6, according to the complaint.
TMH claims the patient has remained at the hospital and continues to occupy a room at the time of filing on March 2.

According to the complaint, hospital staff have made “repeated efforts” to help the patient “safely complete discharge,” including coordination with family members and offering “non-emergency medical transportation to obtain necessary identification.”
On Nov. 24, TMH provided written notice to the patient requiring them to leave.
The complaint seeks a temporary injunction requiring the patient to leave the hospital, citing the limited beds, the patient’s presence preventing use of the space for others needing care and TMH staff resources being diverted to the issue.
According to court documents, a hearing is set for March 30.
