PORT ST. LUCIE – A private preschool was closed on March 13 after a staff member received a threat by phone against the school, Port St. Lucie Police confirmed.
Chesterbrook Academy Preschool at 9861 SW Village Parkway, Port St. Lucie was closed after a staff member reported receiving the threat. Officer Brittany McNally could not confirm the nature of the threat but said in a text that “we are currently investigating if this is a credible threat. But in an abundance of caution we are taking the necessary precautions.”
The interior and exterior of the school was search by explosives detection K9 and Port St. Lucie police officers and no suspicious items were found, McNally said. The school subsequently was released back to staff, McNally said in a text.
In a message sent to parents, staff indicated that the school would be closed for the remainder of March 13.
A message left on the school’s voice mail was not returned.
The 40-year-old preschool, located west of I-95, teaches children from infant up to five years old, servicing areas from Fort Pierce south to Stuart, according to its web site.
