A Tennessee woman has been taken into custody after authorities said she struck two teens on a motorized scooter in Hudson and then fled the scene.

Kelsie Renea Moorman, 25, was taken into custody Oct. 20 in Pinellas County on two warrants for leaving the scene of a crash with serious injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Each count carried a $25,000 bond.

Troopers said the crash happened around 10:10 p.m. Oct. 12 at U.S. 19 and New York Avenue in Hudson.

A Chevrolet pickup truck traveling north on U.S. 19 collided with a motorized scooter heading east on New York Avenue, FHP said. The scooter was being operated by a 16-year-old Hudson boy who was carrying a 15-year-old passenger from New Port Richey.

The truck’s driver fled the scene, troopers said.

Over several days, troopers worked to identify evidence and the suspect driver. Moorman of Memphis, Tennessee, fled to her home state after the crash, where she was located through a collaboration between the Florida Highway Patrol and the Tennessee Highway Patrol, FHP said.

Tennessee troopers helped recover the vehicle, and warrants were issued for Moorman’s arrest.

The two juveniles suffered serious injuries and remain hospitalized, troopers said.
