FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — The Fort Myers Police Department arrested a man accused of attempting to assault two women.

Police arrested Shaquille Taj Ashley after responding to a disturbance at an apartment on Stella Street. According to police, Ashley forced entry into the apartment in an attempt to attack the victim.

The victim fought back, forcing Ashley out of the apartment. According to the police department, Ashley fled the scene, causing law enforcement to coordinate a perimeter search of the area. 

As officers canvassed the area, witnesses flagged down officers and provided information about a male matching the suspect’s description running through the neighborhood.

While canvassing the area, another woman reported a man matching Ashley’s description approaching her outside a nearby business. He allegedly made inappropriate comments toward the woman and then grabbed her. The woman was able to break free from Ashley and escape the situation. 

Ashley was eventually found by law enforcement behind the shed of a nearby yard. He was arrested and charged with burglary with battery or assault, battery on a person 65 years of age or older, and battery.
