Albany, Georgia – A late-season cold snap will send temperatures below freezing across southwest Georgia, the Florida Panhandle, and southeast Alabama early Tuesday, threatening crops and outdoor plumbing across the tri-state region.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, a Freeze Warning remains in effect from midnight CDT / 1 a.m. EDT until 9 a.m. CDT / 10 a.m. EDT Tuesday. Temperatures across the region could fall to around 29°F, cold enough to damage early spring vegetation.

The warning includes major communities such as Albany, Tifton, Thomasville, Bainbridge, Dothan, Enterprise, Marianna, Chipley, Blountstown, and Bonifay, along with dozens of smaller towns across southwest Georgia and the Florida Big Bend and Panhandle.

The cold air arrives behind a strong cold front that moved through the Southeast earlier. Rural inland areas—especially across southwest Georgia and southeast Alabama—are expected to experience the coldest readings before sunrise Tuesday.

Forecasters warn that frost and freeze conditions could kill sensitive plants and damage early-season crops, particularly where vegetation has already begun spring growth.

Residents are urged to cover plants, bring potted vegetation indoors, and protect exposed pipes before temperatures fall overnight Monday. The freeze threat should ease after mid-morning Tuesday, though additional cold mornings remain possible later this week if skies stay clear overnight.
