TAMPA, Fla. (WWSB) – A suspicious package has been reported at the MacDill Air Force Base Visitors Center, the FBI is reporting.
The package is near the Dale Mabry entrance gate. FBI special agent bomb technicians are on the scene along with Tampa Police, the FBI said on social media.
MacDill is home to U.S. Central Command, the headquarters in charge of U.S. military operations in the Middle East.
The Dale Mabry entrance gate is currently closed. Traffic to the base is being diverted to the Bayshore Gate.
Tampa Police have also shut down MacDill Avenue south of Interbay as a precaution.
