Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Tampa were among the 10 most popular domestic spring break destinations, according to the travel resource company.

ARKANSAS, USA — Four Florida cities were among the most popular domestic destinations for spring break 2026, according to the American Automobile Association.

Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and Tampa are among the 10 most popular domestic spring break destinations, according to the travel resource company.

“It’s really no surprise,” said AAA spokesperson Nick Chabarria. “AAA surveys found that Florida is the hot destination for spring break. Whether you’re visiting any of the theme parks, hitting the beach, or just heading south for a little bit nicer weather, Florida has a lot to offer for both families and individual travelers for spring break.”

Domestic flights for spring break are up 2% from 2025, averaging $815 for round-trip tickets. Chabarria said both gas prices and airline ticket costs rose as the conflict with Iran intensified, but many travelers had already booked their trips before prices increased.

“Airlines often have longer-term fuel contracts, extended out about three months,” Chabarria said. “Airline fuel costs are not felt as immediately as what we see at the gas pumps.”

AAA also expects more than 21 million Americans to take a cruise in 2026. The cruising industry has rebounded strongly from the pandemic, with cruise lines around the world adding capacity and expanding their fleets.

“Cruising is a great way to see a lot without having to plan a lot,” Chabarria said. “You’re just responsible for getting to the port, and then the cruise really handles the rest.”

Florida, California, Texas, Hawaii, and Arizona were the top states for road trip car rentals through Hertz. For travelers taking their own vehicles, Chabarria recommended at least getting an oil change before hitting the road. Dead or disabled batteries were the No. 1 reason AAA members called for roadside assistance.

“We’ve had a lot of temperature swings over the last several days that can really wreak havoc on your tire pressure, which could impact your fuel economy and also your vehicle safety,” Chabarria said.

For international travelers, AAA also recommends enrolling in the State Department’s STEP (Smart Traveler Enrollment Program). The program allows the U.S. government to know where American tourists are traveling and sends them security updates during their stay.
