(Miami, FL) – The Miami Cuban community is reacting to President Trump saying he will have the “honor of taking Cuba.”

Cuban born Miami radio host Ninoska Perez says she believes Trump is “honored the be the first American president to free Cuba.”

She adds that his comments did not cause Cuba’s electrical grid to collapse. Perez says the Cuban regime is the problem and she cannot wait for President Trump to free the island so she can return.

Cuba’s economic czar, Oscar Pérez-Oliva Fraga, says the island is opening the private sector to Cuban Americans something Perez is skeptical about.

Perez blames the Cuban regime for many things, including the recent collapse of the power grid along with water and food shortages.

Speaking at the White House Monday, Trump called the island less than 100 miles from Florida “a failed nation” and said “I think I can do anything I want with it.” The president’s comments came the same day that Cuba’s national electrical grid suffered a total collapse, leaving around ten-million people without power.

It’s the first major blackout since the U.S. effectively shut off the flow of Venezuelan oil to Cuba.

Sec. Marco Rubio met with the grandson of retired Cuban leader Raul Castro, two U.S. officials late last month.
