CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WINK)—Powerful winds from last night’s storm left homeowners in a northwest Cape Coral neighborhood dealing with damage and cleanup.

Ring doorbell video captured the moment strong winds broke a door and sent it flying out of frame. As a woman ran inside with her cat, the door was visible at the back of the screen.

“This huge gust of air just came out of nowhere,” she said.

Down Southwest 35th Avenue, Andres Cangara spent the day cleaning up after the winds tore down part of his fence and sent chairs flying across his lanai.

“All of a sudden, I started seeing the wind pick up,” Cangara said. “Before you know it, my pool chairs end up going across the lanai. Everything started flying around.”

Cangara wasted no time making repairs and clearing away debris left behind after the storm moved through. The wind also damaged mailboxes and left marks on fences around the neighborhood.

Cangara said he’s just glad the damage was something he could handle.

“They go in like Lego pieces, and so they’re easy to replace and stuff like that,” he said. “I think I had probably about three sections missing off the back end over there.”

The Weather Authority reported a wind gust of just over 50 miles per hour in South Cape Coral. Looking at the damage, Cangara said it felt much stronger.

“If this was 50 miles an hour, and like literally, the palm trees were bent sideways, I’d hate to imagine what a true 70, 80,” he said.

Cangara fixed his fence in the afternoon, but his neighbor, who also has some pieces missing, still has work to do.
