Gresham Smith building-out in 1 Independent Square Downtown

Architecture, planning and design firm Gresham Smith appears to be moving from one Downtown office tower to another.

The city issued a permit March 17 for Marand Builders Inc. of Jacksonville Beach to build-out almost 8,600 square feet of space for Gresham Smith in 1 Independent Square at 1 Independent Drive at a project cost of $2.07 million.

Gresham Smith is building-out space in Suite 2901 on the 29th floor of the 37-story tower. Meskel &  Associates Engineering PLLC of Jacksonville is the private provider for plan review.

The firm’s address now is the 22nd floor in One Enterprise Center at 225 Water St. That space, Suite 2200, is the top floor.

Gresham Smith will move two blocks east.

The firm moved Downtown in 2015 from the suburbs where it had operated in the Concourse at 5220 Belfort Road. At the time, Gresham Smith said a 10-year lease was signed for about 10,700 square feet of space.

The 1 Independent Drive tower is owned by AREIT RE WFC LLC of New York City.

Nashville, Tennessee-based Gresham Smith says it established a Jacksonville office in 1989.

It says on GreshamSmith.com that the Jacksonville team specializes in providing architecture, interior design and engineering services for the firm’s health care and transportation clients.
