Joan Simonson passed away peacefully on Friday, March 6, 2026 after a courageous battle at Vitas Hospice at Lee Memorial hospital. Born in Hoboken, New Jersey, Joan was a 48 year resident of Cape Coral and North Fort Myers, FL.
Joan was surrounded by family and loved ones at the time of her passing who witnessed her strength and humor throughout her illness.
Joan was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, David L. Simonson, her parents William and May Barnhart, her sister Muriel (Charles) Hinz and her brother William (Mary Barnhart.
She is survived by her son Craig (Kathy) Simonson, her daughter Robin (Scott Jenkins and her son David W. Simonson, her 9 grandchildren Skye (Mickey) Honas, Ryan Simonson, Jeffrey (Stacey) Simonson, Kyle Morris, Devon (Cody) Tracy, David Jr (Allie) Simonson, Seth Simonson, Jamie Simonson and Frank Simonson. Joan also had 14 great grandchildren.
Joan worked at Sears Surplus in Pompton Lakes, NJ and upon moving to FL continued her career at Sears in the Edison mall for nearly 50 years before retiring.
Born to shop, love life and laugh were the mottos she lived by every day and she will be greatly missed. Dance with Dave, Billy and Muriel among the angels our sweet lady. You made a lasting impression on everyone you have touched.
