ORLANDO, Fla. – The No. 19 Tulane bowling team opened the three-day Destination Orlando tournament with a strong showing on Friday, totaling 4,815 pins with a 2-3 record to sit in seventh entering day two. The event is hosted by Sacred Heart at the AMF Sky Lanes.
Tulane averaged 192.6 pins per game today after bowling five baker matches. The Wave eclipsed 900 in all five matches and posted a quadruple-digit score of 1,015 in match four against No. 6 Arkansas State.
With a pin total of 4,815, Tulane is currently seventh in the stacked 24-team field. Each of the six teams ahead of the Wave in the standings are also nationally ranked, with national No. 1 Jacksonville State topping the leaderboard with 5,257 pins at a 210.3 average.
The day began with a contest against No. 3 Vanderbilt, which the Commodores won 1,038-952. The individual games had scores of 201-254, 170-231, 183-166, 190-174, and 208-213.
Things did not get any easier with a match-up against national No. 4 and defending 2025 NCAA champion Youngstown State, but the Wave rose to the occasion with a massive 982-978 triumph. Game scores were 148-205, 196-182, 183-189, 264-209, 191-193.
Tulane kept riding the momentum into a lopsided tilt against Texas Southern, which the Wave claimed 962-834. The Green Wave won all five games by scores of 184-179, 190-156, 185-182, 202-162, 191-155.
The remaining two contests were both against ranked foes with No. 6 Arkansas State next up. The Red Wolves won the match 1,030-1,015. The tight contest saw scores of 241-168, 235-201, 192-256, 146-169, and 201-236.
The final match of the day was against No. 14 Mount St. Mary’s, a 996-904 loss. Game scores were 194-180, 200-199, 161-179, 214-221, 135-217.
Action continues tomorrow with day two of the tournament, which features traditional match play. Tulane will bowl five traditional matches against more tough competition with two more ranked opponents. The first contest will be against Emmanuel with No. 21 Valparaiso following. After a contest against Bryant, the Wave squares off against its third top-five opponent of the weekend with No. 2 Nebraska. The day concludes with a tilt against Prairie View A&M.
