CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WINK)—Neighbors on Gator Circle East say speeding drivers are putting their homes, cars and families at risk after two crashes happened just six days apart.

Residents are now pushing for change after the latest crash Tuesday night. One neighbor described the growing danger on the curving road.

“This is starting to become dangerous,” a neighbor said.

Another resident explained what happened during last week’s crash.

“Some kids were coming at a high speed, like we’ve mentioned before, and they slid and crashed into the neighbor’s house and destroyed her car,” the neighbor said.

One front yard still shows damage from last week’s crash. Tuesday night’s crash happened just three doors down from that scene.

“We do not feel safe because we feel like we can’t leave our cars outside. We feel like children can’t be outside because people are driving,” a resident said.

The latest crash happened just after 8 p.m. Tuesday. Sharon Paris, who lives a couple houses down from the scene, said she regularly sees drivers going more than twice the posted speed limit of 35 mph.

“I see people going like 80 miles an hour, real fast,” Paris said.

Tire marks at the scene lead straight to the damage. A car was tossed off the road, a taillight was ripped away and dirt, debris and broken parts were left scattered around.

The only home with any protection is where the bend in the road happens. The owner said drivers at night treat the road like a highway.

Cape Coral police confirmed the crash happened because of speeding. Police said they will send extra patrols to the area, and two cars have already been pulled over for speeding since the latest crash.
