TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A veteran NASA astronaut with ties to Tallahassee shared what it’s really like to work in space.
Winston Scott has been on two space missions and completed three space walks.
His journey to the stars started in Tallahassee as a graduate of Florida State University. He then became a naval aviator, a path that eventually led him to NASA.
Scott said it takes years of education and experience to get selected to go to space and even more years of training and preparation before ever taking off.

“Just looking out at the solar system because you can see past the earth and you see the stars, the constellations, other planets depending on when you’re up there. It’s totally an amazing experience and even regular mundane things become special in that environment,” Scott said.
Scott is sharing his experience with others at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex where guests can get an up-close look at American’s spaceport.
All eyes are on Artemis ahead of its planned April 1 launch. Visitors have a rare chance to see it up close starting March 20, until lift off.
