MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — The Martin County Sheriff’s Office is on the hunt for a woman who scammed one of its residents out of over $23,000 after she threatened to haul him to jail in front of his friends and family.
Kenique Bellamy is accused of scamming $23,600 from an unsuspecting victim after posing as a Martin County Sheriff’s Office employee. The sheriff’s office says Bellamy, 31, convinced the victim that he missed federal jury duty and that there was a warrant for his arrest.
Following Bellamy’s instructions, the victim deposited into a Bitcoin ATM to cover supposed “federal fines.”
