CAPE CORAL, Fla. —

Cape Coral residents are increasingly concerned about traffic safety as the city grows, highlighted by a recent incident involving a teenager performing stunts in a busy intersection.

Edwin Alvarez, a Cape Coral native, believes the streets are becoming more dangerous as more people move to the city.

“It’s just become a lot more intense with driving and a lot of younger kids driving, a lot of speeding,” Alvarez said.

Last Saturday, 19-year-old Kayden Anderson was arrested for performing stunts with two other teens in the car and blocking a busy neighborhood intersection.

According to the arrest report, a witness saw Anderson doing donuts in the middle of Santa Barbara Boulevard, saying he almost hit cars while burning rubber.

Meghan Neville, a Cape Coral resident, expressed her concern about the incident. “That’s very sad. It’s unfortunate because a lot of families live around here. You know, and I have a little two-year-old as well, too. So, it’s very sad when people drive recklessly like that, especially and, you know, just when there’s a lot of people around,” Neville said.

The city is adding traffic lights to the intersection to ease congestion, but Alvarez doubts it will stop people from speeding or doing stunts.

“We have to take into consideration that it’s a younger crowd and we just have to be considerate of others and be safe while driving,” Alvarez said.

Anderson is expected in court at the end of the month.
