FORT PIECE, Fla. (CBS12) — According to a county official, a new hotel is going to be built at the Treasure Coast International Airport in Ft. Pierce.

St. Lucie County Commissioner Cathy Townsend said in a recent Port St. Lucie Talks podcast a hotel with a conference room will be built there.

She did not specify which hotel is going to open at the airport or when construction will start.

Erick Gill, St. Lucie County Communications Director, says a deal has not been signed with any hotel developer and he would not say what hotels the county is talking with. Gill says the county is talking to at least three commercial airlines about starting to offer flights at the Treasure Coast International Airport.

Early Friday evening Townsend returned a call seeking comment. She says the new airport hotel will be a 300-room hotel.

She says they are very, very close to making an announcement about which hotel will be built at the Treasure Coast International Airport.

Townsend says they will have multiple commercial airlines flying out of the Treasure Coast International Airport as soon as January 2026.

She says the TSA is already at the Treasure Coast International Airport preparing for the start of commercial airline service and she says the TSA moves very fast.

The Treasure Coast International Airport is not currently served by any commercial airlines. Gill says renovations are underway to increase space at the airport terminal and construction is also being done to expand the airport parking area.
