The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said it made three arrests after more than 200 teens gathered at the park.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Another ‘teen takeover’ has attracted the attention of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Police responded to Blue Cypress Park in the University Park area Wednesday night after a gathering of more than 200 teenagers turned violent, with multiple fights breaking out, JSO said. Three teen girls were arrested for their alleged involvement.

JSO said one subgroup broke off and went to a nearby apartment complex, where police received reports of gunshots being fired. After an investigation, officers said they found no evidence that anyone was shot.

The park was blocked off to the teens who attempted to return, and JSO said it will remain closed for the remainder of the night.

“But parents and caregivers, enough is enough,” JSO said in a statement. “Please be aware and alert about what your teen is up to. Help us cut down on these takeovers by monitoring how your teen is spending their time and who they’re with. Please do not drop them off to locations without knowing why they’re there.”

Large gatherings of teenagers have been a focus of law enforcement as of late, with some turning violent.

Last month in Jacksonville Beach, five people aged 15 to 18 were shot at a gathering close to a packed festival. Earlier in February, a gun was fired at a ‘takeover’ at the Avenues Mall.
