Gulf Beach Masons donate to leukemia group
MADEIRA BEACH — Gulf Beach Masonic Lodge No. 291 here recently donated $500 to the Jackson Copeland Foundation to support its mission of helping families affected by high-risk leukemia.
The foundation honors the memory of Jackson Copeland, who was born in St. Petersburg on June 26, 2001. After living for a time in South Wales, California, and Hawaii, his family returned to St. Petersburg in 2006. Jackson attended Perkins Elementary School, Thurgood Marshall and Sanderlin Middle Schools, and graduated from the Finance Academy at Northeast High School in 2019. After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy Reserve while attending St. Petersburg College. In March 2022, Jackson was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (FLT-3+). Despite undergoing multiple rounds of intensive chemotherapy and preparing for a bone marrow transplant, Jackson passed away peacefully at home on May 2, 2024, surrounded by his family. The foundation continues his legacy by helping others facing the same difficult battle.
