Former college football star Cameron Ontko, who went on to spend time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has died. He was 33.
Cal Poly announced Ontko’s death in a post on Instagram last week.
“Cal Poly mourns the loss of former linebacker Cameron Ontko,” the post said. “Our thoughts are with his family, friends and former teammates.”

According to his mother Brenda Boulton’s Facebook page, Ontko died from a ruptured ulcer.
Cameron Ontko started his college football career at Wisconsin, spending two seasons with the Badgers before transferring to Cal Poly.
In his first season at Cal Poly in 2012, Ontko recorded 42 tackles while playing in a reserve role. He had a breakout season in 2013, finishing with 108 tackles. Ontko once again had 108 tackles in 2014, which was good for second on the team.
Following his college career, Cameron Ontko went undrafted in the 2015 NFL Draft.
He attended rookie mini-camp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but did not make the team and instead continued his football career in the CFL.

“Incredible teammate, friend, and human,” former Cal Poly and NFL linebacker Nick Dzubnar commented on Instagram.
Former Cal Poly quarterback Chris Brown, who also played alongside Ontko, added: “Incredible Football player, great Teammate, and Great Friend. We will never forget you Cam!!!”
