The city of Sanibel will hold a Transportation Master Plan Public Workshop on March 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Community House, at 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, as well as virtually.
With Volkert, Kittelson & Associates, and 24-7 Consulting, the city is developing the master plan to evaluate proposed improvements across the island. It will document the current conditions of Sanibel’s transportation system, establish a long-term vision for future mobility, and provide recommendations for implementation over the five-, 10- and 20-year timeframes. It will address key needs, including traffic congestion, wildlife-vehicle collisions, pedestrian and bicycle safety, and stormwater flooding.
The workshop will provide an opportunity for community members to learn about the study’s purpose; review maps and proposed projects, programs and policies; ask questions; and share feedback with representatives from the city and consultant team. Gathered public input will directly inform the study’s recommendations and help guide the future of transportation on Sanibel.
A draft of the plan is anticipated to be presented to the Sanibel Planning Commission and Sanibel City Council in September-October for consideration and adoption.
