Florida State University kicker Conor McAneney has been suspended from team activities by the school after his arrest at a bar on Fort Lauderdale beach early Wednesday morning during Spring Break.

He is charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer with violence and trespassing, according to jail records.

About 3 a.m., security had removed the 20-year-old from Rock Bar, located in the central part of the beach, but he was “actively resisting,” according to a probable cause affidavit, so police officers stepped in. By that point, the kicker had already been removed from “several bars throughout the evening for causing disturbances,” the affidavit said.

One of the officers grabbed McAneney and told him to leave the area of Rock Bar, according to the affidavit. Instead, McAneney began holding onto the bar’s barrier gates. The officer wrote that he then “grabbed (McAneney) under his arms to attempt to make him release his grip.”

When the two had moved away from the bar, McAneney grabbed the officer and tried to pull him down, the officer wrote, almost causing him to fall into the busy road.

The officer then punched McAneney twice in the face and brought him to the ground, where a brief struggle ensued before officers managed to put him in handcuffs. Paramedics took McAneney to Broward General Health for his injuries. He is now being held in Broward Main Jail in lieu of $2,750 bond.

FSU has suspended McAneney indefinitely from all team activities, a spokesperson told the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

McAneney is originally from Northern Ireland and played Gaelic football before moving to the U.S., according to ESPN. He transferred from Quincy University, a Division II school in Quincy, Illinois, and signed with the Seminoles in January.
