QUINCY — Former Quincy University kicker Conor McAneney, who transferred to Florida State University following the fall semester, finds himself in a legal predicament following an arrest early Thursday morning in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

According to multiple media reports and Broward County jail records, McAneney is facing charges of battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer with violence and trespassing following his arrest at 2:30 a.m. Thursday near the beach.

The first two charges are third-degree felonies.

“While FLPD officers were attempting to detain McAneney, he became uncooperative and violent. He was arrested and charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting with violence and trespassing,” the Fort Lauderdale Police Department said in a statement.

A statement released by the Florida State athletic department said McAneney has been indefinitely suspended from all team activities.

A native of Northern Ireland, McAneney was one of three international kickers/punters QU had on the roster last fall. Primarily a field goal specialist and kickoff specialist as a true freshman, McAneney made 7 of 10 field goals with a long of 45 yards. He was 4 of 4 on extra points.

McAneney was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Special Teams Player of the Week following the Hawks’ 34-33 overtime victory at William Jewell when he kicked fourth-quarter field goals of 44 and 45 yards and converted his first three PATs of the season.

McAneney also handled kickoff duties for the Hawks, knocking 16 of his 49 kicks for touchbacks.
