The so-called “Anti-Pride” bill is headed to the governor’s desk and prohibits local governments from funding employees, contractors, and others to promote DEI initiatives.
Former North Miami city councilman and member of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation board, Scott Galvin, says Saturday’s Fort Lauderdale AIDS Walk may be impacted by this new bill if it goes into effect in January of 2027.
Galvin says tomorrow’s event is fully funded by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, but there is a financial logistical assist from the city of Fort Lauderdale because to close down roads and guide traffic.
He adds that huge economic drivers like the Key West Fantasy Fest, may have to change the name of the event to Halloween Fest to avoid cancellation.
“The 2026 Florida AIDS Walk & Music Festival at South Beach Park on Fort Lauderdale Beach celebrates 20 years of impact with a 5K walk and live music.” says Galvin.
“The event headliner is Queen Latifah who will help raise funds for local HIV and AIDS service organizations.”
