The grocer intends to sell or close more than 30 Winn-Dixie stores and Harveys Supermarket locations outside of Florida.

WASHINGTON — Winn-Dixie will sell or close dozens of stores in the South as its owner, Southeastern Grocers, undergoes a rebrand. 

Southeastern Grocers, which owns Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket, announced Tuesday that it would change its name to The Winn-Dixie Company in early 2026 as it renews its focus in Florida. The grocer also intends to sell or close 32 Winn-Dixie stores and eight Harveys Supermarket locations outside of Florida. 

The locations listed include stores in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi. Store closings or sales are expected to be completed by the end of the year, according to a press release. 

“For a century, Winn-Dixie has proudly called Florida home. Our story is built on the resilience and spirit of its people, and that foundation will guide our future,” Southeastern Grocers Chairman and CEO Anthony Hucker said in a statement. “As we enter our next century as The Winn-Dixie Company – a brand-new 100-year-old company – we are accelerating growth where our roots run deepest while staying true to our purpose of feeding and enriching the communities, families and neighbors who have supported us for generations.”

The company said that it would keep some stores in southern Georgia, notably in Brunswick, Folkston, Lake Park, St. Simons and Valdosta. 

Additionally, the now Winn-Dixie Company acquired three Hitchcock’s Markets in Florida, namely in Alachua, Keystone Heights and Williston, that will become Winn-Dixie stores.

Following these restructuring plans, The Winn-Dixie Company said it will operate approximately 130 grocery stores and 140 freestanding and grocery-adjacent liquor stores.
