A longtime Tallahassee bakery got a shout out on late night television from one of Hollywood’s A-listers.
Ryan Gosling raved about the “Pop-Tart”-style pastries from The Cake Shop on Capital Circle Northeast, made by founder and head pastry chef Linda Richards.

The Cake Shop Bakery is located at 1908 Capital Circle Northeast.
Gosling was a guest on Late Night with Seth Meyers on March 18 to promote his new sci-fi/adventure film, “Project Hail Mary.”
Immediately, he spotted Richards’ sister Donna, who works on Meyers’ show and was a wardrobe supervisor on “Saturday Night Live,” where he’s hosted four times and where Meyers was on the cast from 2001 to 2014.
“And Donna’s sister, can I mention her bakery?” Gosling said. “She owns a bakery in Florida, in Tallahassee. And they make the most incredible Pop-Tarts. You have to order these Pop-Tarts. And Donna gives them to you at the beginning of the show, like when you start hosting. So you’re just running on Pop-Tarts.”
Meyers feigned being upset – because he never got any: “We’re in year 12 of the show, Ryan, and not a single tart has popped for old Seth,” he cracked, adding, “I didn’t even know she had a family.”
It’s not clear what effect the mention had on the shop, however. An outgoing message on the bakery’s phone said it was closed for spring break and wouldn’t reopen till March 23.
A bio on the store’s website notes that Richards “is a champion of the home-style recipes of childhood days.”
“Whether celebrating a birthday, anniversary, or just a joyous day, Linda’s innovations of the classics will satisfy your eye, your palette, and your heart,” it says. “Linda served as pastry chef for Epicurean/Trio Restaurant for several years. With over twenty years serving up sweet treats at The Cake Shop, Linda is a stalwart of the Tallahassee Gourmet community.”
