One of St. Petersburg’s oldest restaurants, The Chattaway, is changing hands in August.
Known for burgers, a large patio, high-tea service and live music, it’s been around in its current iteration for decades.
Owner Debby Kitto said the restaurant is in the process of being sold, and that the new owners plan to fix it up.
“I believe they are going to keep it the same, they bought the name,” Debby Kitto said by phone March 17. “We don’t have any grandkids that want to take the restaurant over, so we sold it.”
Jillian Frers, Kitto’s mother, was the driving force behind the restaurant for years. Kitto said she wants to return to her native London.
“It is with a heavy heart that we are moving forward,” said Winona Kitto, one of Frers’ six children, said by phone Tuesday.
Debby Kitto said they may have a big party before the sale, but she hasn’t planned anything yet.
