Melissa is the thirteenth named storm of the 2025 season and will become the fifth hurricane this weekend, which is a full month behind the historical average for the fifth hurricane of the hurricane season (Sept. 28).

“Trends have come into agreement that Melissa will become a catastrophic Category 4 or 5 hurricane this weekend,” said FOX 35 Storm Team Meteorologist Noah Bergren. “The storm will either hit Jamaica head on, or meander off the coast then loop around the western side of the Island.”

A cold front next week will then lift and grab Melissa to the north, crossing eastern Cuba then tracking across the Bahamas in the middle of next week.
“Enhanced surf, rip currents, and gusty winds will be felt from Melissa on the Florida east coast next Tuesday through Wednesday,” Bregren added.
