FORT PIECE, Fla. (CBS12) — Drivers along Interstate 95 in St. Lucie County are getting a hint that Buc-ee’s is on the way — even if construction hasn’t started just yet.
Updated billboards near Indrio Road now tease the super-sized gas station with phrases like “LOADING ST. LUCIE,” replacing earlier, more playful messages. A second sign on the northbound side has also been swapped out, reminding travelers how far the nearest location still is.
While the signs may suggest progress, the site itself remains unchanged, with no visible construction at the planned southeast corner of I-95 and Indrio Road.

County officials say movement is happening behind the scenes. Buc-ee’s has submitted revisions to its site plans after receiving feedback, and staff are expected to respond with additional comments in the coming days. The changes are considered minor and are not expected to require another vote from county commissioners.
If final approvals are secured, construction could move forward with a timeline of about a year to 15 months before opening.
Plans for the location outline a massive travel center featuring more than 70,000 square feet of retail space, hundreds of parking spots, dozens of gas pumps, and electric vehicle chargers. Local leaders have also approved a towering sign for the site, making it a highly visible stop along the busy corridor.
