Gateway and Cape Coral are an even 4-4-2 against one another since February of 2023, but likely not for long. The two teams, after both having extra time off, will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Cape Coral took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Gateway, who comes in off a win.

Gateway had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Lehigh last Thursday. The Eagles put the hurt on the Lightning with a sharp 11-1 win. The Eagles haven’t had any issues with the Lightning recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

The team relied heavily on Anthony Medina, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Devyn Vitiello, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Gateway always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. The team’s really been improving in that area: they’ve now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Cape Coral was not able to break out of their rough patch last Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against South Fort Myers, falling 9-1.

Cape Coral saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julious Sinboualay, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one double. Sinboualay is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he’s now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he’s played.

Cape Coral’s loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Gateway, their win bumped their record up to 4-9.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Gateway has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it’s not like Cape Coral struggles in that department as they’ve been averaging an even more impressive 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Gateway suffered a grim 10-4 defeat to Cape Coral in their previous matchup last Monday. Will the Eagles have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
