LEE COUNTY, Fla. (WINK) — A plane veered off a runway and crashed during takeoff in Upper Captiva on Saturday, according to officials and witnesses.
Upper Captiva Fire Commissioner Duncan Rosen told WINK News the aircraft went off the south edge of the runway and into the bushes in an empty lot.
John Lai, president of the Sanibel and Captiva Chamber of Commerce, said the plane lost a wing in the crash. None of the four people on board was injured.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with the incident.
