GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A one-run game went No. 1 Tennessee’s way as No. 5/8 Florida dropped its series opener to the Lady Vols, 2-1, on Friday evening at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.

A solo home run from Kenleigh Cahalan in the bottom of the second was the Gators’ sole run of the game, her 11th long ball of the season, a new single-season career best.

The senior extended her on-base streak to 31 games and has reached in every game this season.

Keagan Rothrock (16-2) made her 17th start of the season, pitching six innings, allowing a pair of runs on four hits with five strikeouts. Rothrock struggled with free passes, allowing five walks and a hit by pitch.

Taylor Shumaker had two of Florida’s four hits in the game, her 17th multi-hit game of the season.

Tennessee scored both of its runs in the fifth, plating two on three hits, including a pair of doubles.

With the loss, the Gators drop to 29-2 on the season and 6-1 in conference play. 

Florida will look to even up the series on Saturday at 1 p.m. during the Gators’ annual Yellow Game.
