A report is shedding some light on how much lawmakers in different states are making, and in Florida, that number is below the average salary.
According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, data from 2024 showed that Florida lawmakers had a base salary of $29,697.
That number is lower than the state’s median household income, which is $62,990, per Forbes.
Aside from that salary, legislators are reimbursed 44.5 cents per mile when traveling to Tallahassee.
NCSL said that legislatures paid their members differently depending on the state they live in.

In their data, NCSL found that the highest paid state for lawmakers is New York, where they received a $142,000 annual salary.
New Hampshire is the lowest, with lawmakers making $100 a year, and in New Mexico, they don’t get paid at all, but lawmakers get reimbursed 70 cents per mile.
